HAYDOCK, England (AP) — Kauto Star, an 11-year-old gelding, won the Betfair Chase by eight lengths Saturday in capturing the steeplechase race for the fourth time.

Kauto Star beat rival and runner-up Long Runs by eight lengths at Haydock and showed he still has the legs to compete with Britain’s leading steeplechasers.

Kauto Star, a 6-1 shot, pulled away in the final furlong. Long Run, the 6-5 favorite, took the King George VI Chase and Cheltenham Gold Cup titles from Kauto Star last season.

This was another success for Paul Nicholls, who trained Kauto Star to four wins in the King George VI and two in the Gold Cup.
