Letter: Good job, Costco

Published: November 18, 2011, 4:00pm

The residents of the state of Washington owe a huge debt of gratitude to Costco, regardless of how they may have voted on Initiative 1183, which repeals state controls over the distribution and sale of liquor in Washington.

Yes, Costco spent $22 million in support of I-1183, and that’s a lot of money. But it got the job done.

It gets our state out of the liquor business.

More importantly, it shrinks the size of state government.

It’s unfortunate that any money had to be spent to shrink state government. After all, shouldn’t responsible government do this on its own?

But governments are run by politicians, and … well, what else can I say? Politicians always seem to take care of themselves first, and forget for whom they work.
