PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Police have ordered a gathering of Occupy Portland protesters to dismantle a set of tents in the city’s southwest park blocks on Saturday morning, one hour after they were put up.
The two dozen protesters say they removed the structures but remained in the park holding signs and manning information booths.
Police had not reported any arrests related to the protest by late Saturday morning.
Organizer Micaiah Dutt says the protesters were attempting to draw a larger crowd in the hopes of building another encampment similar to the one that drew the ire of city leaders during a month-long occupation of two downtown Portland parks.
A march on Sunday in protest of the eviction of that Occupy Portland encampment is expected to draw large crowds to the city’s waterfront.
