Alabama A&M escapes with 75-74 win over Oakwood

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) — Brandon Ellis hit the game-winning basket, his only points of the night, with 5 seconds remaining to lift Alabama A&M over Oakwood 75-74 on Saturday night.

Jeremy Crutcher led the Bulldogs (2-1) with 19 points. Casey Canty added 14 points while Demarquelle Tabb had 10 points and 11 rebounds.

The Bulldogs started with a 25-8 run but Oakwood responded by outscoring Alabama A&M 21-6 the rest of the way to cut the deficit to 31-29 by halftime. The game was tied 10 times in the second half and neither team led by more than five points during that span.

Oakwood led 74-71 with 2:18 to play in the game, but went scoreless the rest of the way. Tabb hit a free throw with 1:05 remaining, then another with 31 seconds to go to cut the deficit to 74-73.

Marcus Fitts led Oakwood with 21 points and Lenard Bryant added 17.
