Hinkle leads American past Columbia 66-58

NEW YORK (AP) — Charles Hinkle scored 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead American University to a 66-58 win over Columbia Saturday night.

Hinkle, who shot 6 of 12 from the floor, made all three of his 3-point attempts for the Eagles (2-2). Daniel Munoz finished with 14 points and five assists, and Troy Brewer added 13 points.

American shot 48 percent (24-50) from the field and the team totaled five 3-pointers for the game.

The Lions took a 52-48 lead with 6:13 left in the second half when Mark Cisco hit consecutive jumpers. But the Eagles eventually pulled ahead by two points with 4:02 remaining on two free throws by Hinkle, who shot 6 of 9 from the line.

Munoz made two straight baskets to give American enough cushion with a 59-53 lead with 2:37 left.

Brian Barbour scored 18 points for Columbia (0-3). Cisco had 15 points and 12 rebounds.
