Houston Baptist beats Cal State Fullerton 88-83

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — Tyler Russell scored 20 points to lead five Houston Baptist players in double figures in an 88-83 win over Cal State Fullerton on Sunday.

Ronald March and Marcel Smith added 17 each, Marcus Davis had 15 and Joe Latas 12 for the Huskies (2-3) in the Beryl Shipley Classic.

Houston Baptist never trailed, but the Titans (3-1) cut it to one, 84-83, on Kwame Vaughn’s free throw with 10 seconds left.

Davis then made both his free throws, before Isiah Umipig turned it over for Cal State Fullerton with 3 seconds to play. Davis made two more foul shots for the final margin.

Houston Baptist finished shooting 50 percent from the field (32 of 64).

D.J. Seeley had 25 points for the Titans, Vaughn added 21 and Omondi Amoke 20. Orane Chin had a double-double for Cal State Fullerton with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
