AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — The Iron Bowl once again carries national title and Heisman Trophy implications.
No. 2 Alabama visits rival Auburn on Saturday likely needing only a win to advance to the BCS championship game thanks to an array of losses by other contenders.
Plus, Crimson Tide tailback Trent Richardson’s among the Heisman contenders.
The already bitter rivalry got spice from the Tigers’ huge comeback and 28-27 victory en route to the national title last season, and from the subsequent poisoning of Auburn’s Toomer’s Corner oak trees allegedly by an Alabama fan.
Says Auburn quarterback Clint Moseley: “It’s the biggest day of the year, if you live in Alabama.”
Tide coach Nick Saban says his team’s not worrying about the national title, just this game.
