Does anyone else feel the dread from that little blurb on Page A6 of The Columbian on Nov. 11: “Western black rhino declared extinct”? Did you read the bit about the official extinction of the black rhino, and that the northern white rhino in Africa is possibly extinct, and the Javan rhino in Vietnam is possibly extinct, and that one quarter of all mammals are at risk of extinction?
Four inches of text on a back page … for one quarter of mammals. It seems like heaven should open up and God should yell down at us, “You idiots!” Are we really going to fiddle while diversity burns? Really?
What’s the solution here?
