KINGSTON, R.I. (AP) — Towson clinched its first Colonial Athletic Association championship with a 28-17 win over Rhode Island on Saturday.

The Tigers (9-2, 7-1 Colonial Athletic Association), who have won three games in a row, entered the weekend tied with Maine for first place but clinched the title outright when the Black Bears lost to New Hampshire on Saturday.

Grant Enders threw two touchdown passes in the second half to preserve the win. A 10-yard touchdown run by Terrance West with 1:38 to play in the first half gave Towson the lead for good at 14-10. Enders, who had 212 yards passing, threw touchdown passes of 21 and 18 yards to Tom Ryan.

Rhode Island (3-8, 2-6) bolted to a 10-0 lead on a field goal and a 20-yard touchdown pass from Bob Bentsen to Joe Migliarese. A 6-yard run by the Rams’ Willie McGinnis trimmed the deficit to 21-17.
