PORT ANGELES, Wash. (AP) — Rescue teams are attempting Monday morning to rescue a 15-year-old male hiker injured during a fall in the Olympic National Park.

Park spokeswoman Barb Maynes says the teen from Sequim was on a trail on the north side of Lake Crescent Sunday afternoon when he fell about 150 feet down a rock slide.

Park rangers and other rescuers reached the teen and his father at about 7 p.m. Sunday but steep terrain and bad weather prevented a rescue in the dark. The rangers stayed overnight with the two. Other rangers and members of the Clallam county Search & Rescue began hiking toward them Monday.

Maynes says the teen’s injuries prevented him from walking out, but are not considered life-threatening.
