Pearson, George Mason rout Brown 74-48

FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) — Ryan Pearson had 23 points, and Vaughn Gray 10 as George Mason cruised past Brown 74-48 Monday night.

The Patriots (3-2) overpowered the Bears, 4aa2-14 in the paint and outrebounded Brown 42-30 during a game in the consolation round of the NIT Season Tip-Off.

George Mason shot over 50 percent from the field for most of the game while holding the Bears to 33.3 percent (18 of 54). The Patriots finished shooting 48.3 percent for the game (28 of 58).

Trailing 12-10 midway through the first half, Sherrod Wright’s three-point play started a 17-2 run and the Patriots led 27-14 with 4:15 remaining. The Patriots held the Bears (2-3) to one field goal during the near eight-minute span and 28.6 percent shooting (8 of 28) in the opening half.

John Harris scored nine points for the Bears (2-3), who shot 20 percent (5 of 25) from beyond the arc.
