Balanced Oakland, Mich., turns back Houston 76-74

HOUSTON (AP) — Corey Petros and Reggie Hamilton scored 16 points apiece and Oakland, Mich., slipped past Houston 76-74 on Tuesday night.

Drew Valentine and Laval Lucas-Perry added 15 points each for the Golden Grizzlies (2-2). Petros also had a game-high nine rebounds, and Travis Bader led Oakland with six assists.

Kirk Van Slyke scored a game-best 28 points for the Cougars (3-1) and Alandise Harris had 21. But no other Houston player scored more than seven points, though Joseph Young piled up eight assists.

Petros, Ryan Bass and Lucas-Perry scored consecutive baskets to push the Grizzlies ahead 61-55 with 9:39 left. Though the lead never grew beyond that, Oakland led the rest of the game.

The largest lead for either team was Houston’s nine-point edge midway through the first half.
