HONOLULU (AP) — An anonymous letter to the University of Hawaii is raising allegations that football players are involved in a point-shaving scheme, and police are investigating.

The university released a statement Tuesday after KITV was the first to call asking about the probe.

UH President M.R.C. Greenwood says the admissions office received the letter Nov. 3 and university officials immediately alerted Honolulu police and the NCAA.

The letter accuses unnamed players of intentionally playing poorly to affect the final score.

A university spokeswoman declined to say if the letter is referring to Hawaii’s current season.

After winning 10 games in 2010, the Warriors are 5-6 this year with two games left in the regular season. They’re 3-7-1 against the point spread and have failed to beat the spread in nearly two months.
