GOLD BAR, Wash. (AP) — People in the small Snohomish County town of Gold Bar are being told to boil their drinking water on Thanksgiving after a water main break caused a pressure loss in the system.

Residents were alerted to the situation by a reverse 911 call Wednesday night. Officials believe the problem may have been caused by a tree root. The city says repairs have been made but the boiling advisory was issued as a safety precaution until water quality tests are completed.

Gold Bar provides drinking water to about 2,200 residents.
