JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. (AP) — Air Force inspectors have given Lewis-McChord C-17 cargo jets a rating of “unsatisfactory” for their job of transporting nuclear weapons.
The News Tribune reports (http://is.gd/TknkU4 ) the 62nd Airlift Wing received its first unsatisfactory rating after a week-long inspection that concluded Monday.
Air Mobility Command spokesman Lt. Col. Glen Roberts says the public was not at risk. The airlift wing can continue its mission, and it will be re-inspected within 90 days.
Roberts says the commander, Gen. Raymond Johns Jr., will order corrections and may discipline responsible parties.
