KINGSTON, R.I. (AP) — Jonathan Holton had 20 points to pace four double-figure scorers for Rhode Island, which secured its first win 85-73 over Hofstra on Friday.
Nikola Malesevic added 18 points, Jamal Wilson 15 and Orion Outerbridge 11 for the Rams (1-3), who shot 56.1 percent (32 of 57) from the field in their first round win in the TicketCity Legends Classic subregional they are hosting.
The Pride shot 46.2 percent (24 of 52) from the floor.
Holton scored 14 of his game total in Rhode Island’s opening 25-7 run, as the Rams led nearly the entire way and all of the second half. Rhode Island led 45-39 at halftime and outscored the Pride 40-34 in the second half to seal the win.
The Rams also scored 23 points off 17 Hofstra turnovers.
Mike Moore led Hofstra (2-3) with 25 points and Nathaniel Lester added 22.
