East Carolina pulls away from Chowan 78-62

GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Miguel Paul and Darrius Morrow each scored 20 points to help East Carolina pull away to beat Chowan 78-62 on Saturday.

Morrow made 8 for 10 from the field while Paul made 7 for 11 and hit five 3-pointers.

Chowan (2-4) cut East Carolina’s second half lead to three, 51-48, behind a Quinton McDuffie 3-pointer. But East Carolina used a 13-4 run, capped off by a Paul 3-pointer, to take a 64-52 lead with 6:55 remaining in the half.

Erin Straughn scored 17 points for East Carolina and Maurice Kemp added nine points and 12 rebounds for the Pirates.

McDuffie lead Chowan with 22 points and nine rebounds.

East Carolina (4-1) outshot Chowan 51.7 percent (31 for 60) to 41.3 percent (26 for 63) and outscored the Hawks 46-26 in the paint.

The Pirates have won three straight games and 10 in a row against non-Division I opponents.
