MONROE, La. (AP) — DeAntra Scott scored 24 points and Harding upset Louisiana-Monroe 71-68 on Saturday to win its first regular season game against a Division I opponent.

Harding, a Division II team, defeated Southeast Missouri State — a D-I squad — 68-63 on Nov. 7, but the game between the two was an exhibition.

Harding held a 62-50 lead with 5:29 left in the second half when Hayden Johnson knocked down a 3-pointer. The Bisons had trouble pulling away from Louisiana-Monroe, as the Warhawks cut the lead to 68-65 on Fred Brown’s 3-pointer with 40 seconds remaining.

But Harding was able to hold on as Weston Jameson made a couple of free throws down the stretch to help top the Warhawks (0-5).

Zach Roddenberry scored 13 points for Harding. Johnson and Bradley Spencer each had 10 points.

Charles Winborne led Louisiana-Monroe with 18 points, Brown had 17 points and Trent Mackey added 13.
