ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Raijon Kelly hit a 3-pointer with 1:13 to play, and Samford held on Saturday to beat Texas-Arlington 71-69 despite blowing a 22-point lead.
The Mavericks (3-2) had two chances to tie the game in the final seconds. With 1.1 seconds left, Shaquille White-Miller was fouled by Kelly, but missed the first free throw. He intentionally missed the second, and the ball went out of bounds off a Samford player. Jordan Reves got the inbounds pass with 0.6 seconds left but missed a jumper at the buzzer.
The Bulldogs (1-3) shot 61 percent (14 for 23) from the field in the first half and raced to a 37-15 lead. Texas-Arlington responded with a 17-0 run to get back in the game.
Drew Windler scored 16 for Samford and was 4 of 5 on 3-pointers, and Jeffrey Merritt added 15.
LaMarcus Reed led Texas-Arlington with 17 points, and Kevin Butler had 14.
