BANDON, Ore. (AP) — A 71-year-old man facing murder charges after shooting another man who was riding a bicycle has been found dead.

The Coos County sheriff’s office says Robert Melvin Walker was found dead from an apparent suicide on Friday. An autopsy is pending.

According to the sheriff’s office, Walker was last seen alone in his jail cell. They say Walker died of “self-inflicted strangulation.”

Walker shot a 40-year-old man riding his bicycle on U.S. Highway 101 on the Oregon coast after an argument.
