Navy holds off Mount St. Mary’s 64-56

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — J.J. Avila scored 19 points to lead four Navy players in double figures as the Midshipmen defeated Mount St. Mary’s 64-56 Sunday night.

Jordan Sugars added 15 points and 11 rebounds, Thurgood Wynn scored 12 points and Worth Smith had 11 points for the Midshipmen (3-4), who snapped a four-game losing streak.

Kelvin Parker scored 14 points and Chad Holley got all 11 of his in the second half to pace the Mountaineers (1-4), who lost their third straight.

Navy led 43-29 with 17:08 remaining in the game after a 3-pointer by Sugars, but Mount St. Mary’s shot 55.6 percent (10 of 18) in the second half to cut into the lead. A 3-pointer by Holley with 3:08 left trimmed the margin to 57-54.

Sugars answered with a 3-pointer for Navy at the 2:34 mark, and the Mountaineers got no closer than five points the rest of the way.
