PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Portland police have located the parents of 2-year-old boy Sunday after the child was found with a woman who was not his mother.

Lt. Robert King says police are investigating how the boy went missing before releasing the boy into the parents’ custody.

Police appealed to the public for help after finding the boy Sunday morning with a 30-year-old woman known to police to have mental health and drug issues. She was unable to identify the boy and police determined the child did not belong to her.

KGW reports the boy’s parents say the child was supposed to have been at church with his grandparents.
