LAKEWOOD, Wash. (AP) — Families and friends of four Lakewood police officers killed two years ago are remembering them with a food drive.
The fallen officers food drive began last year as a way to remember the officers who were shot on Nov. 29, 2009, at a coffee shop. The gunman, Maurice Clemmons, was killed two days later by a Seattle officer.
The News Tribune reports (http://is.gd/nqqZ7H ) the first drive last year brought in $31,000 and 23,000 pounds of food for the Emergency Food Network. This year’s goal is $50,000 and 50,000 pounds of food.
Donations are being accepted at the Lakewood police department, Forza coffee shops in Pierce County, county library branches and some businesses.
