Letter: Get control of metro crime invasion

The Columbian
Published: November 27, 2011, 4:00pm

Drive-by shootings, gang warfare, home invasions, drug busts — just another day in Baltimore — no, wait, it is Portland, Ore. We moved here 20 years ago from California to get away from the crime culture, but even then the word among the gangs in California and Mexico was that Portland was under-policed and very liberal, and you could get away with anything there. The migration of drug criminals was inevitable, and the result is on the news every morning. After a succession of liberal mayors, the city now urgently needs a strong leader who will support the police and strengthen the force. Another weak mayor in city hall, and Portland will really be Baltimore West.
