Louisiana-Monroe defeats Nicholls State 86-65

THIBODAUX, La. (AP) — Charles Winborne scored 19 points and Louisiana-Monroe defeated Nicholls State 86-65 on Monday night, for its first win of the season.

The Warhawks (1-6) shot 62 percent from the field (31 of 50) for their highest shooting percentage in a game since December 2009. It was also the Warhawks’ highest point total of the season.

Up by two, 36-34, at halftime, Louisiana-Monroe shot 65.5 percent from the field in the second half (19 of 29) and outscored Nicholls State 50-31 in the final 20 minutes.

The Warhawks scored eight straight points, including a pair of 3-pointers from Fred Brown, to build a 52-44 advantage midway through the second half.

Brown finished with 15 points, Hugh Mingo added 13, Trent Mackey chipped in 12 and Fabio Ribeiro had 10 for the Warhawks.

Nicholls State (1-6) was led by Sam McBeath, Bryan Hammond and Chris Talkington with 12 points each.
