Not guilty plea in PLU groping case

TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — A man accused of groping young women near Pacific Lutheran University at the same time he worked as a juvenile detention officer had a not guilty plea entered for him in Pierce County Superior Court.

Zane L. Nixon was ordered held Monday on $100,000 bail. He is charged with one count of third-degree rape and eight counts of fourth-degree assault with sexual motivation.

The News Tribune reports (http://is.gd/yx4X56 ) deputies arrested the 35-year-old Wednesday night with help from campus security.

Most of the incidents took place between Oct. 30 and Nov. 20 when victims were walking alone. They were approached from behind and assaulted.

Nixon was fired Monday from his job at the Remann Hall juvenile detention center in Tacoma.
