CLEVELAND (AP) — The mother of a 16-year-old Ohio boy charged with attempted murder in a Craigslist ad investigation says he’s innocent and is cooperating with authorities.

Authorities say victims were lured into a deadly robbery scheme by a false job ad for a farm hand. At least two men are dead and one wounded. One other body may be connected to the case.

The teen suspect’s mother said in a phone interview Monday that her son “is not a monster.” She says he has been warned he will face trial as an adult and could face more than 40 years in prison.

A man described as a mentor to her son is also a suspect and is in jail in Akron on unrelated charges.
