EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Supporters of fired University of Oregon President Richard Lariviere (la-riv-ee-air) planned a demonstration at noon Monday in front of the administration building in Eugene.

The Oregonian also reports (http://is.gd/Zfn1KY ) the faculty assembly plans an emergency assembly on Wednesday.

The state Board of Education voted to fire Lariviere on Monday at a meeting in Portland. The board says he lost its trust by pushing for more independence for the university at the expense of the state’s six other campuses.

Lariviere also is a tenured UO professor and says he will return to the classroom to teach Sanskrit.
