Fourcade wins 20K in opening biathlon World Cup

OSTERSUND, Sweden (AP) — Martin Fourcade of France outpaced skiers from the Czech Republic and Germany to win the 20-kilometer biathlon in the season-opening World Cup on Wedneday.

Fourcade missed only one target on the course in Ostersund to cross the line comfortably in 53 minutes, 29.8 seconds.

The closest rival, 1:54.3 behind, was Cezch Michal Slesingr, who also missed one target.

Germany’s Simon Schempp finished third, 1:54.5 back.

Last year’s overall cup winner, Norwegian Tarjei Boe missed four targets to place 25th.
