COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Missouri backup tight end Andrew Jones may join the basketball team.

Coaches are taking a look at Jones, a senior who fell to third string this season. Jones was passed by sophomore Eric Waters as the backup behind Michael Egnew and has no receptions this year.

The 6-foot-5. 255-pound Jones caught 20 passes for 146 yards as a freshman. He had eight receptions as a sophomore and one as a junior and has one tackle this season.

Jones was a heralded recruit out of Smithville, Mo., ranked the second-best prospect in the state by two scouting services.
