SEATTLE (AP) — The city of Seattle is removing candy and sugary drinks from vending machines at city parks and community centers.

The department says it has been phasing out unhealthy food and drinks at 80 machines.

KUOW reports (http://is.gd/0cp5B1) the machines are being stocked with food recommended by the Seattle-King County Health Department, such as nuts, dried fruit, milk and juice.

Acting Deputy Superintendent Eric Friedli says the city may lose some revenue as a result of the healthy changes, but he says revenue is not the department’s most important concern.
