Campbell beats Liberty 96-82

BUIES CREEK, N.C. (AP) — Trey Freeman, Rico Ferguson and Darren White combined for 67 points as Campbell took down Liberty 96-82 Thursday night.

Freeman scored 28 points, White added 20 and Ferguson had 19 as the Camels shot 56 percent (30 of 54) from the field.

Campbell (5-1) jumped out to an early 9-2 lead with Freeman, Ferguson and White scoring all of the Camels opening points. The Camels took a 45-37 lead with 45 seconds to play in the half behind five straight points by Freeman but Liberty’s Chene Phillips reeled off five straight of his own to close the gap to 45-41 at halftime.

The second half belonged to Campbell, as the Camels outscored Liberty 51-41 during the period.

Joel Vander Pol led the Flames (2-5) with 20 points and nine rebounds and John Caleb Sanders chipped in with 14.

Campbell sank 32 of 43 (74.4 percent) free throws in the win.
