BEAVER CREEK, Colo. (AP) — The age-defying Didier Cuche of Switzerland has turned in the fastest time in a downhill training run on a demanding Birds of Prey course.

Cuche, who is still going strong at 37 years old, finished his run Wednesday in a time of 1 minute, 45.54 seconds, which was 0.10 seconds ahead of Christof Innerhofer of Italy. Bode Miller was fourth.

This was the first training run in advance of the downhill race on Friday. Training also was scheduled for Tuesday, but was scrubbed in part because Miller, who’s serving as the athletes’ representative, raised concerns over safety. The jury listened and took the rest of the day to shave down a portion of the hill to help control speed.

Training was briefly delayed Wednesday for more work on the course.
