Loyola (Md.) pulls away Marist 76-63

BALTIMORE (AP) — Dylon Cormier scored 15 points and Erik Etherly recorded a double-double as Loyola (Md.) defeated Marist 76-63 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opener for both teams on Thursday night.

Loyola, which trailed majority of the game, took the lead for good at 49-48 behind a Robert Olson jump shot. Loyola then went on a 17-9 run to take a 66-57 lead with 4:06 left in the second half. Marist (2-4) cut the lead to six, 66-60, with 3:51 left but Loyola outscored the Red Foxes 10-3 in the final 3 minutes.

Justin Drummond and Etherly scored 14 points and Olson and Shane Walker each added 11 points for Loyola. Etherly also had 10 rebounds.

The Greyhounds (5-1) snapped a five-game losing streak in MAAC openers and improved to 5-1 for the first time since the 2005-06 season.

Chavaughn Lewis tallied a game-high 16 for Marist (2-4).
