Suspicious bag reported at Portland airport

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The baggage claim area and the roadway approaching it at Portland International Airport have been closed while authorities investigate a piece of unattended baggage.

Airport spokeswoman Kama Simonds said the bag was reported as suspicious about 10:40 a.m. Thursday, and a multi-agency bomb squad was called. She says the baggage was suspicious because it was unattended.

She said she didn’t have information about the bag itself or whether it was linked to a flight.

The baggage area is a floor below the ticketing area, which remained open.

Simonds says passengers are picking up their luggage on the upper floor, and vehicles are able to pick up and drop off passengers on that upper level.
