Vexor wins the Nashua Stakes at Belmont Park

NEW YORK (AP) — Vexor pulled off an 18-1 upset in the $150,000 Nashua, the richest of four 2-year-old stakes on Sunday at Belmont Park.

Second most of the race, Vexor wrested the lead away from the pacesetting Trinniberg in the deep stretch. Ridden by David Cohen for trainer John Kimmel, Vexor prevailed by three-quarters of a length for his second win in four starts.

Vexor paid $38.20 to win, running six furlongs in 1:10.71.

In the other stakes, Believe You Can beat Perennial Song by 212 lengths in the $98,000 Tempted Stakes for fillies with Gabriel Saez aboard for trainer Larry Jones.

Pure Gossip, another long shot at 23-1, won the $100,000 Miss Grillo for fillies on the turf with Ryan Curatolo up for trainer Phil Serpe. Shkspeare Shaliyah took the $100,000 Pilgrim on the grass for trainer Doodnauth Shivmangal with Alex Solis in the irons.
