CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — A former University of Wyoming student who pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide in the drunken driving deaths of eight students 10 years ago will soon be out on parole.

Clint Haskins is scheduled to be released Feb. 1 next year. His release has angered the parents of some victims and rekindled their questions about how Wyoming’s justice system treats alcohol-related crimes.

But others note that Haskins has been speaking around the state since to dissuade others from drinking and driving.

Haskins was originally sentenced to 14 to 20 years in prison for driving drunk and smashing his pickup head-on into a SUV, killing eight members of UW’s cross country team on Sept. 16, 2001.
