BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — The family of Rafael Nadal is leaving the executive board of the Spanish soccer team Mallorca, citing a conflict of interest.
The Nadal family owns 10 percent of the financially troubled team and its board representative is Fernando Martos.
The tennis star’s family said in a statement Monday that Martos was leaving because Miguel Angel Nadal, Rafael Nadal’s uncle and a former soccer player for Spain, took over as caretaker coach last weekend. The Nadal family also is said to be unhappy after Michael Laudrup resigned as coach last week.
Club spokesman Jordi Jimenez tells The Associated Press the Nadals have not said whether they were selling their stake in the club.
