Eugene officer at desk job after DUII plea

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — A Eugene police patrol officer has been assigned to a desk job during an internal investigation of his drunken driving arrest over the Labor Day weekend at Sunriver.

The Register Guard reports (http://bit.ly/pFyUC2 ) 27-year-old Officer Derek DeWitt pleaded no contest to the misdemeanor DUII charge Sept. 23 in Deschutes County Circuit Court.

The conviction will be dismissed if he completes a diversion program.
