COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho (AP) — Prosecutors in northern Idaho are reviewing whether any criminal charges should be filed in the death of a Washington state man who stopped breathing while being taken into police custody.

The Coeur d’Alene Press reports (http://bit.ly/quTh4g ) 30-year-old Nicholas Andrew Clason, of Spokane, was arrested July 10 and died four days later after being taken off life-support at Kootenai Medical Center.

The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office headed an investigation because the Coeur d’Alene Police Department and Idaho State Police had contact with Clason before his death. The Kootenai County prosecutor’s office is now reviewing the results of the investigation.

Police say they responded to a report of a suicidal man, later identified as Clason, who was trying to stab himself with a sharp object on U.S. Interstate 90.
