CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Turner Motorsports has released Nationwide Series championship contender Reed Sorenson.

Sorenson is currently third in the Nationwide standings with five races remaining this season. He trails leader Ricky Stenhouse by 27 points.

The team says Brian Vickers will drive the No. 32 at Kansas and Charlotte instead of Sorenson. The driver of the final three races has yet to be announced.

Team owner Steve Turner gave no clear reason for Sorenson’s release in Tuesday’s statement. He says the team is evaluating its programs with a focus on 2012.

Sorenson had one win this year and 18 top-10 finishes. He also led the points for three weeks.
