EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — Allen Funk is stepping down this month after a decade as publisher at The Herald in Everett.
He says the changing business model of newspapers played a role in his decision.
Funk came to paper from its owner, The Washington Post Co. The company will conduct a nationwide search for his replacement. In the meantime, Herald general manager David Dadisman will be in charge of day-to-day operations.
Funk said the evolving business model for newspapers has been his number one source of stress. The Herald has cut the size of paper, reduced staff and contracted delivery to The Seattle Times to reduce costs.
Under Funk, The Herald operated with a Web-first philosophy, publishing stories first on Heraldnet.com and adding more context in print.
