MIAMI (AP) — Miami Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne has decided to have season-ending shoulder surgery, and the team signed veteran Sage Rosenfels as a roster replacement.

Henne went on injured reserve Thursday after separating his left shoulder in the first quarter of Sunday’s game at San Diego. Matt Moore stepped in and is expected to make his first start for the Dolphins in their next game Oct. 17 against the New York Jets.

Rosenfels, who was with the Dolphins in 2002-05, signed two days after being released by the New York Giants. He had a strong preseason before a blood disorder sent him to the hospital, but he hasn’t thrown a pass in a regular-season game since 2008.
