EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Two Eugene-area Boys and Girls Clubs are closing for the rest of the year because they don’t have enough money to operate.
Board of Directors President Scott Palmer tells KVAL-TV (http://bit.ly/o06syb) the organization’s budget has been hammered by rising enrollment and falling revenue from grants and donations. Palmer says the organization didn’t have enough money to make payroll.
Hundreds of affected parents were notified about the decision one day before the closure. More than 75 percent of the club’s nearly 1,000 young people are from families living below the poverty line.
The organization says it will take the next three months to restructure its finances and raise the money necessary to re-open in January.
