PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Some of the Occupy Portland Demonstrators camped out in a downtown park say they will temporarily leave the area to make room for the Portland Marathon.

The Oregonian reports (http://bit.ly/o0mYRk) a group of more than 60 demonstrators voted Saturday morning to leave Lownsdale Square and head to the park blocks of Portland State University by 8 a.m. on Sunday. They plan to return to Lownsdale in a peaceful march later in the day.

Some demonstrators will remain in the adjacent Chapman Square, which has become the movement’s home base with tents, a central food station and a few medical tents.

Demonstrators have been negotiating with police and marathon organizers, who have had a longtime permit to use the two squares as the start and finish lines. It appeared late Friday that they had agreed to share the space.
