VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) — Dante Warren ran for two touchdowns and threw for another one to help South Dakota beat Southern Utah 24-19 on Saturday.

Marcus Sims ran for 159 yards for the Coyotes (4-2, 1-0 Great West).

Warren, who threw for 186 yards and ran for 76, scored on runs of 1 and 20 yards to lift South Dakota to a 14-0 lead. The Thunderbirds (3-3, 0-2) scored on the first of two Brad Sorensen TD passes, an 11-yarder to Brady Measom, to cut the lead in half.

A pair of field goals drew Southern Utah within a point but Warren found Michael Neilson for a 6-yard touchdown to restore South Dakota’s lead to 21-13. A field goal later in the fourth quarter helped the Coyotes hang on as Sorensen hit Abbel Aiono for an 8-yard score with 2:17 left. A 2-point conversion try failed and South Dakota ran out the clock.
