ZooMontana gets mentor to regain accreditation

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — ZooMontana Director Jeff Ewelt says the Association of Zoos and Aquariums has provided the zoo with a mentor to help it reapply for accreditation.

Ewelt tells the Billings Gazette (http://bit.ly/qFWugN) in a story published Saturday that Gary Geddes will spend a full day at the zoo later this month. Geddes is the director of the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium in Tacoma, Wash., and Northwest Trek Wildlife Park in Eatonville, Wash.

Geddes has been a commissioner for the Association of Zoos and Aquariums for three years and has led several of the association’s inspections.

ZooMontana lost its accreditation with the association earlier this year amid financial problems, leading to the removal of three grizzly bear cubs.
