Letter: Good to give; please don’t take

In Paul Holmes’ Oct. 4 letter, “It’s good to give,” he misses a very important point about the scripture he is quoting. That is “free will.”

Holmes is trying to say Jesus would like to see the rich taxed to serve the perceived needy.

But we can see Jesus gives the “rich man” a choice to sell his possessions and give to the poor in Matthew 16.

I think Holmes would find that most Christian conservatives, especially successful ones, are very generous in their giving to people less fortunate, of their own free will.

So yes, it’s good to give but please don’t take.
