VIENNA (AP) — Austrian skier Hans Grugger will get back on skis Wednesday for the first time since his near-fatal crash during downhill training in Kitzbuehel almost nine months ago.
The Austrian ski federation said Monday that the 29-year-old Grugger has been cleared by doctors and will resume ski training at the Rettenbach glacier in Soelden, Austria.
Grugger underwent a five-hour emergency brain operation and was kept in an induced coma for 11 days after smashing his head on the Streif course on Jan. 20.
Grugger, who has four World Cup victories, said in May that he was working on his comeback as a top-level ski racer.
