DUBLIN (AP) — Los Angeles Galaxy forward Robbie Keane will miss Ireland’s 2012 European Championship qualifier against Armenia on Tuesday because of an injury to his adductor muscle.
Keane, Ireland’s captain and career leader with 51 goals, complained of soreness in his adductor muscle after playing the full 90 minutes of Friday’s 2-0 win in Andorra.
Ireland (5-1-3) has 18 points and needs to beat Armenia to have a chance to leapfrog Russia (6-1-2) and finish first in Group B, which would qualify the Irish for next year’s tournament. Ireland is two points behind Russia, which hosts Andorra (0-9), and a point ahead of Armenia (5-2-2) going into the final qualifier.
